With the recent announcement from The Scout Association stating that we must stop face-to-face Scouting for the foreseeable future, we must find ways to adapt such that we can continue to develop skills for life in young people across Devon.
It is important that we remain as unhindered as possible and hence, as a County Team, we have compiled some information and resources to help you make the most of our current situation.
The Great Indoors
As a measure to support Sections in these uncertain times, The Scout Association has put together a web-page listing a wide range of activities which can be utilized for the continuation of Scouting from home. This can be found at the link below.
We strongly encourage all Section Leaders to have a browse of the page and consider how you can implement these ideas to continue Scouting despite the difficulties we face.
Jamboree On the Internet (JOTI) – Special Edition
In light of recent events, the World Organisation of the Scouting Movement (WOSM) are putting on a special edition of the ‘Jamboree On The Internet’ (JOTI). This will be running over the weekend of the 3rd to the 5th of April 2020.
JOTI is an international online event aimed at providing young people with valuable opportunities to meet Scouts from other countries over the internet whilst educating them on topics such as health, well-being and staying safe online. For more information and to sign up, visit https://www.jotajoti.info/joti-special-edition .
JOTI is an amazing opportunity, allowing young people to engage with Scouting and continue learning skills for life despite our current restrictions. We are very keen to spread the word and get as many young people involved in this as possible, so please direct as many people as you can to the link above or this page.
Scouting At Home Facebook group
In an effort to provide a platform for sharing ‘Scouting at home’ ideas and achievements, we have created a dedicated Devon Scouts ‘Scouting at home’ Facebook group. This can be found at the link below.
We would like you to share anything your Section, Group or District is doing to battle the boredom and keep Scouting present in the lives of young people across Devon. Be sure to also keep an eye out for ideas that would work with your young people.
Keeping connected with Technology
If you would like some more information on how you can stay connected through the use of technology then we have linked a page from the Somerset Scouts website below. We will soon update our page with more information on how you can stay in touch, but in the meantime this should serve as a useful resource.
