Time to enter The Southern 50
The annual Southern 50 is a famous challenge hike. It's a weekend winter adventure in the Chiltern Hills for all Explorer Scouts and adults in Scouting and is one of the longest running Scout County events in the UK. The 2018 event is going to be our 39th consecutive year.It starts and finishes at a different venue each year. This means that there will be a different route each year.
The event is managed by a team of experienced adults in Scouting from Greater London North. The 2018 event sees a brilliant new innovative route which is in the process of being planned.
The date of the forthcoming Southern 50 is Saturday 10th February 2018. Teams must comprise of between 3-5 members, and they come from all over the UK. They have 24 hours to complete their chosen event of a 50 mile route, a 50 km route or a 30 km route exclusively for Explorer Scouts or Scouts over 13½ who are using this as a linked activity. Teams are given a series of eight figure map references which correspond to staffed checkpoints just before they start, and they have to navigate their way to each checkpoint in order.
On Saturday evening, teams will be given a meal and bedded down for the Saturday night. There will be entertainment for the Explorer Scouts during the Saturday evening. At 0900 hrs on the Sunday morning there will be a presentation of certificates and trophies along with a video of the previous day’s play.
